Burton Snowboards, founded by Jake Burton Carpenter in 1977, back then the snowboards were made of polyurethane coated wood, applied by Jake himself in his garage. Today Burton Snowboards is one of the most popular snowboard manufacturers in the world. With a snowboard product line that includes every possible needed essentials to snowboarding. Burton makes their own snowboards, boots, snowboard bindings, outerwear, accessories and much more, all behind Jake Burton who has created a definition of what it is to be a snowboarder.
By 1986 Burton had set up shop in Austria and New Zealand, and was selling snowboard worldwide by 1992. Today the Burton snowboard brand is the most recognized name in snowboarding, selling their products in over 4,300 stores. The Burton snowboard family of brands has expanded to include Alien Workshop skateboards, Anon Optics goggles and sunglasses, RED helmets and body armor, Analog outerwear and Gravis footwear to name a few.
Each season, Burton improves its technology, allow boards to be lighter, faster and more stable. Burton snowboards technology started with small leaps in the mid 80’s adding steel edges, better bindings and high-tech plastic bases. Today, Burton’s snowboards feature Extra Sensory Technology (EST) channel binding systems and super high tech carbon construction. To help market the brand, Burton sponsors several professional riders including snowboard superstar Shaun White, Jeremy Jones, Terje Haakonsen, Kelly Clark, Hannah Teter, Kevin Pearce and Mason Aguirre.
